2019 TCEP Annual Meeting
Genise Burgess, RHIT, was recently appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer. Burgess began her career with Brault in 2010 as Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management, where she led efforts in claims tracking, reimbursement coding, and patient billing. In her new role as COO, Burgess will tap into her 30+ years of experience in physician group operations, to enhance synergy between the company’s two main service offerings – revenue cycle optimization and practice management.
“Her unique experience in both health information management and provider-side operations offers incredible value to our clients,” explains President and CEO Dr. Andrea Brault, MD, MMM, FACEP. “We’ve made a purposeful effort, over the past couple years, to grow our executive team with industry experts that can make a direct impact on our client’s operational efficiency, risk management, and bottom line.”
The appointment of Burgess as Chief Operating Officer is just the latest in a series of high-profile additions to the Brault Executive Team. In 2018, Brault added two Vice President Positions for Practice Improvement and Coding Integrity.
Jason Adler, MD, FACEP, joined Brault as Vice President of Practice Improvement, where he advises clients on issues related to provider productivity, malpractice risk mitigation, and hospital relationship management. He also leads physician training for documentation protocols and EMR usage. Dr. Adler is a board-certified emergency physician, distinguished author, and nationally recognized expert in coding and reimbursement. In addition to his full-time role with Brault, Dr. Adler also serves as Assistant ED Medical Director for the MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, he reviews malpractice claims for the U.S. Army, and is part of the Novitas / Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee.
Cara L. Friederich, CPC-I, CPC, COC, joined Brault as Vice President of Coding Integrity with more than 24 years’ experience in coding, auditing, and compliance support. Friederich advises clients on issues related to payer audits and MIPS / MACRA reimbursement. She also leads coder training, reimbursement, and quality assurance functions at Brault. Friederich is a past President of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC, California chapter) and has been published in HCCA Compliance Today and AAPC Healthcare Business Monthly.
This pace of growth and value creation isn’t new for Brault, though. The San Dimas-based practice management company, formerly known as Emergency Groups’ Office, already boasts an Executive Team of renowned industry experts.
Vice President of Practice Management Robert Dietz helps lead the Brault Client Services Team. He adds deep expertise in clinical operations improvement, patient flow analysis, provider productivity, and financial management.
Nancy Dumas also helps lead the Client Services as Vice President of Practice Improvement. She advises clients on all matters related to group practice formation, governance and business strategy. Dumas was named a 2018 Female RCM Leader to Know by Becker’s Hospital CFO Report.
Sepand Akhavanhaidary, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, advises clients on issues related to reasonable and customary rates, HIPAA compliance, anti-kickback laws, and Stark violations. He also serves as in-house counsel on reimbursement litigation, payer contract disputes, and underpayments.
Anthony Brown, CCP, serves as Vice President Information Technology and Chief Security Officer. Brown is responsible for Brault’s entire information technology stack and security functions – including proprietary client applications and HIPAA-compliant information transfer.
Patrick Satterfield rounds out the Brault Executive Team as Vice President of Sales & Marketing. He is a networking extraordinaire and an expert in developing mutually beneficial partnerships for medical coding and billing, practice management and populations health applications.
